Mikey Madison is an American actress. She began her career by playing a sullen teenager in the FX comedy series Better Things from 2016 to 2022. She has since played Manson Family follower Susan Atkins in Quentin Tarantino's period drama film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019), Amber Freeman in the horror film Scream (2022), and the title role of a stripper in Sean Baker's romantic drama Anora (2024).

Early life

Madison is originally from Los Angeles, California. Her parents are both psychologists, and she was raised alongside her twin brother and three other siblings.[1][2] After her sister married a screenwriter, Madison left competitive horseback riding to try acting and landed her first role in 2013.[3]

Madison began her acting career appearing in numerous short films, including Retirement (2013), Pani's Box (2013), and Bound for Greatness (2014). In 2014, Madison starred in her first feature film, Liza, Liza, Skies Are Grey, at age 15.[4] The film was not released until 2017. In 2016, she began a starring role as Max Fox in the FX comedy-drama series Better Things created by Louis C.K. and Pamela Adlon.[5] The series was renewed for a fifth and final season which aired in 2022.[6]

From 2017 to 2018, she guest starred in the Bravo dark comedy series Imposters.[7] In 2018, Madison appeared in the drama films Monster and Nostalgia. She earned further recognition for her role as the Manson Family member Susan "Sadie" Atkins in Quentin Tarantino's comedy-drama film Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (2019).[8][9] She also voiced the character Candi the Barista in the animated black comedy film The Addams Family, which was released in October 2019.

Madison was cast as Amber Freeman in the fifth Scream film, which was directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.[10] The film was released in January 2022.[11][12] In 2024, Madison starred as the titular character of the Sean Baker film Anora which premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival[13][14] and won the Palme d'Or.[15][16]
